News and Announcements

Four men stand in front of a red and white fire truck parked on an asphalt lot with autumn trees in the background.

Thank you to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department for visiting Gribbin Elementary School this morning. We appreciate them taking the time to teach our students about fire safety and keeping our community safe. Thank you to Chief Justin Valeo, Ex-Chief Philip Grella Jr., Ex-Chief William Basdavanos, and Ex-Captain Bob Hansen!

Chief Valeo explained how the firefighters’ uniform protects them during a fire and reassured the students not to be afraid if they see a firefighter in full gear. He then demonstrated how he would enter a home during a rescue, showing the students how to stay low, roll, and crawl to safely guide people out of a house in an emergency.

The students also got the exciting opportunity to board the fire truck, sit in the firefighters' seats, and learn about some of the essential tools they use. To top it off, the chiefs even gave a fun demonstration of how the fire hose sprays water!

We hope we never have to use these skills, but it's always important to be prepared!

As part of their ongoing commitment to fire prevention and community safety, the Glen Cove Fire Department invites all Glen Cove students and their families to join us for our Fire Prevention Open House on Sunday, October 25, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at the Glen Cove Fire Department, located at 10 Glen Cove Avenue.

The event will provide families with an opportunity to meet their local firefighters, watch live demonstrations, enjoy fire truck rides, and learn important fire safety tips in a fun and interactive environment.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership with the Glen Cove Fire Department. We appreciate the opportunity to work with our schools to help keep our children and families safe, and we hope to see many of our students and their families at the firehouse!
